Quetta – May 16, 2025 : In a bold and unprecedented move, Baloch leader Mir Yaar Baloch has officially declared Balochistan’s independence from Pakistan and appealed to the United Nations and the Indian government for diplomatic recognition.

In a widely circulated message on social media, Mir Yaar announced the establishment of an independent Baloch nation, citing decades of state oppression, enforced disappearances, and human rights violations in the province. He urged the international community to support the people of Balochistan in their struggle for sovereignty.

“The people of Balochistan have made their national decision. It is time for the world to stop looking away,” Mir Yaar said in his statement.

Call for International Support and Recognition

Mir Yaar Baloch appealed to the United Nations to convene a special session to recognize Balochistan as a sovereign country. He also requested financial assistance to develop a national currency and passport system and called for an international peacekeeping force to protect Baloch citizens from Pakistani military repression.

In addition, he sought India’s support and specifically requested permission to open a Balochistan embassy in New Delhi.

Who is Mir Yaar Baloch?

Mir Yaar Baloch is a journalist and human rights activist who has become a prominent voice in the Free Balochistan Movement. His declaration comes amid increasing unrest in the province and follows years of growing disenchantment with Pakistan’s policies in Balochistan.

Key Organizations in the Baloch Freedom Movement

Several organizations have been actively advocating for Balochistan’s independence:

Baloch Liberation Army (BLA): The most prominent armed group, allegedly involved in coordinated attacks against Pakistani security forces.

Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF): Known for guerrilla warfare tactics since the 1960s.

Free Balochistan Movement (FBM) and Baloch Republican Party (BRP): Vocal in international forums for Baloch self-determination.

Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC): A grassroots political and human rights group known for peaceful resistance against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and state oppression. BYC has garnered significant attention for organizing mass protests and advocating for justice, particularly through leaders like Dr. Mahrang Baloch. Follow BYC on X (Twitter)

Prominent Figures in the Movement

Apart from Mir Yaar Baloch, several key figures have been pivotal in the Baloch nationalist movement:

Dr. Mahrang Baloch: A medical professional and peaceful activist, arrested by Pakistani authorities earlier this year.
Naela Qadri Baloch: Head of the exiled Baloch government-in-exile, currently residing in Canada. She accuses Pakistan of occupying Balochistan illegally.
Akhtar Mengal: Chief of the Balochistan National Party (BNP), has rejected ministerial posts and continues to advocate for the rights of Baloch people.
Hyrbyair Marri: President of the Free Balochistan Movement, a long-time advocate on international platforms.

Why Balochistan Wants Independence

Balochistan is Pakistan’s largest province by area and is rich in natural resources like gas, gold, and copper. Despite contributing significantly to Pakistan’s economy, the province remains underdeveloped and politically marginalized.

Baloch activists allege systematic suppression of their language, culture, and political representation, with thousands of cases of enforced disappearances, illegal detentions, and extrajudicial killings reported over the years.

Balochistan Current Status

“Mir Yaar’s declaration of independence has drawn significant attention from international observers and human rights activists. While official recognition from global powers is yet to materialize, the call for a sovereign Balochistan continues to grow louder. Supporters argue that the struggle deserves greater global engagement and diplomatic attention.”
