Quetta – Balochistan Independence News : A wave of social media activity surged this week following Baloch pro-independence activist Mir Yar Baloch’s public declaration of Balochistan’s independence from Pakistan. Using platform X (formerly Twitter), Baloch called for international recognition of what he termed the “Democratic Republic of Balochistan.”
The declaration gained attention amid escalating tensions between India and Pakistan following India’s reported cross-border strike, Operation Sindoor, conducted on May 7.
“We have claimed our independence,” wrote Mir Yar Baloch. He also appealed to India for the establishment of a Baloch embassy in New Delhi and urged the United Nations to dispatch peacekeeping forces to Balochistan.
Key Appeals and Demands
In a series of posts, Mir Yar Baloch made several public appeals:
To India: Grant official status to a Baloch representative office or embassy in New Delhi.
To the UN: Recognize the independence of Balochistan and deploy peacekeeping missions.
To Pakistan: Immediately vacate Baloch territories, including land, airspace, and sea boundaries, leaving behind all military assets and infrastructure.
He also emphasized the inclusion of women in a forthcoming transitional government, hinting at plans for a formal cabinet announcement and independence ceremony in the near future.
Alleged Attack on Military Forces
Following the declaration, a video circulated online showing a vehicle reportedly carrying Pakistani soldiers being destroyed. The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility, stating 14 Pakistani soldiers were killed. This event added further fuel to the online momentum behind the independence call.
Jinnah’s House Controversy
In a separate development, Hyrbyair Marri, head of the Free Balochistan Movement, called on the Indian government to rename the historical ‘Jinnah House’ in Mumbai to ‘Balochistan House.’ Marri argued that the site, once central to Pakistan’s partition planning, should now symbolize Balochistan’s struggle for sovereignty.
