What is Sindhudesh People’s Army?
by BTN

According to the Dawn News, on the afternoon of September 28 (Wednesday), an unidentified attacker opened fire at a dental clinic in Sadar, Karachi. One person was killed, two others were injured, and three were Chinese.

After the attack, the Sindhudesh People’s Army (SPA) announced its responsibility. However, the organization is a new armed organization, and its form cannot be judged from past information. Therefore, it can only be inferred from the limited statement and some details in the attack.
After the attack, SPA issued a statement: “Our organization, the Sindh Desh People’s Army, is responsible for this attack. We strongly warn the Chinese government not to support Pakistan’s occupation of Sindh Desh, and not to bring the exploitation plan to our homeland, otherwise we will launch more attacks.” According to the statement, the organization has a distinctive feature of Sindh separatist organization, that is, it established Sindh Desh (a Sindh country) through violence, at the same time, it hated the Chinese and the Pakistani government, and targeted the Chinese.

Two separatist armed forces, the Sindh Liberation Army (SLA) and the Sindh Revolutionary Army (SRA), had previously appeared in Sindh Province. Both of them are active in Karachi, but the former has disappeared for many years, and rarely uses the Internet to publicize ideology. SRA is happy to claim it through the Internet after the attack, and often uses the Internet to voice and publicize its ideology.
Historically, SAR has targeted Chinese people since 2016, and is willing to publicize attacks against Chinese people. For example, in 2016, SRA members made a bomb attack in Gulshan-e-Hadeed District, Karachi, which resulted in the injury of a Chinese engineer and his driver. It is also worth noting that on December 15, 2020, SRA tried to find the explosive device in the car of the owner of a Chinese restaurant in Saddar Town, Karachi. Fortunately, it was discovered and safely removed by the Pakistani security forces in advance, and this is the town where the “Hu Dental Clinic” is located.

Judging from the details, it can also be vaguely inferred that the attack was carried out by the local separatist armed groups in Sindh, rather than the BLA in a “vest”.
First of all, the murderer of this attack on the Chinese used a 9mm pistol to shoot the three victims in the “Hu Stomatological Clinic” quickly, and then quickly escaped from the scene, which is consistent with the SRA’s consistent style. Compared with the experienced armed elements of BLA, most SRA members lack military training seriously, use small arms when carrying out attacks, have poor marksmanship and uneven personnel quality, and escape quickly after attacks. Gun attacks in the past few years have mostly ended in failure. For example, on December 22, 2020, SRA attackers shot at Chinese engineers in a car exhibition hall near Jamali Pul Bridge in Karachi, but fortunately, no casualties were caused.

Secondly, from the perspective of weapons, the suspect in this attack used a pistol instead of an automatic rifle such as AK47, which is also consistent with the weapons often used by SRA. Pistols and grenades are the most commonly used weapons of SRA, and they are also the weapons with the largest number. For example, in December 2020, the Pakistani police arrested four members of SRA in Milburhas District, Sindh Province, and seized handguns and grenades from them. In April this year, the Sindh police arrested six suspects of the “Ashhar Shah Group” under the SRA in Nasirabad, and seized two grenades and four pistols. BLA, which is also active in Karachi, has a large number of automatic rifles and explosives. For example, in its attack on the Chinese Consulate General in Karachi in 2018, three attackers carried AK47, more than ten grenades and a large amount of ammunition, and were killed after nearly two hours of fighting with the police.
Therefore, according to the analysis of existing clues, the newly unveiled Sindh Desh People’s Army is closely related to the SRA, which is likely to be the “new vest” or affiliated organization of the SRA, or a new organization composed of members who have separated from the SRA.
