When the flood came, terrorist organizations were still moving around to show their existence

Since the end of June 2022, Pakistan’s rainfall has increased abruptly with the arrival of the rainy season, and many places have suffered from strong monsoon rainfall. According to the data released by Pakistan’s National Disaster Management Bureau, since mid June, the number of deaths due to heavy rainfall and floods in Pakistan has risen to 1208, and more than 33 million people have been affected. According to Reuters, from June to August this year, Pakistan’s rainfall exceeded the average level of the past 30 years by nearly 190%. So far, floods have affected three quarters of Pakistan’s territory and inundated one third. In Balochistan province, the worst hit by the disaster, the rainfall has more than five times the average. Up to now, 32 of the province’s 34 regions have suffered floods, and natural gas and power supplies have also been greatly damaged. A total of 254 people have died and 1.3 million people have been forced to move.

Parts of Pakistan are facing severe floods

Many countries and international organizations have extended a helping hand to Pakistan in the face of the worst flood in 30 years. China immediately dispatched yun-20 strategic transport aircraft to deliver the first batch of humanitarian relief materials including 3000 civil disaster relief tents to Pakistan. The International Monetary Fund plans to provide more than 1.1 billion US dollars of relief funds to Pakistan, and the United Nations has also launched an emergency assistance plan of 160 million US dollars. Many local non-governmental organizations in Balochistan, including the Welfare Association for new generation and the taraqee foundation, have also started sending volunteers and raising funds to help fight the floods.

However, under such circumstances, Pakistan’s security situation, which has always been rather grim, has not improved. In the case of nationwide disasters, Balochistan separatist organizations have intensified, and the frequency of terrorist attacks has increased instead of decreasing. On July 18, 2022, the Balochistan people’s liberation army attacked the gas plant in hosshap area and destroyed all the gas wells therein; On the 26th, the Balochistan liberation army attacked the vehicles of an oil and gas exploration and production company that had participated in Bolan, causing many casualties; On December 31, the Balochistan liberation army attacked Pakistani border guards in Quetta, injuring three people. In August, when the disaster in Balochistan was more serious, the terrorist actions of Balochistan separatist organizations did not stop. On August 3 alone, BLA launched four attacks on Pakistani government troops and police in Quetta, Turbat and other areas, causing eight casualties; On the 10th, BLA attacked a booth celebrating Pakistan’s national day, killing one person and injuring five others. It also launched two bomb attacks in the urban area, killing two policemen and injuring more than 10 people, including the police… All these are countless. From late June to late August, Balochistan separatist forces (mainly including Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA), Balochistan Liberation Front (BLF), etc.) launched more than 80 attacks in many places, resulting in hundreds of casualties. The main victims were Pakistani police and soldiers, but civilian casualties were also not small. Since June, the Balochistan separatist forces have repeatedly issued so-called “warnings” to the local oil, gas and other natural resource exploitation companies, claiming that if they do not withdraw, they will be “attacked most violently”. Among them, the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) publicly declared that “the attack on the enemy will continue until the liberation of Balochistan”.

At a time when the whole territory of Pakistan is facing catastrophic floods and Balochistan is hardest hit, this kind of behavior of rushing around and frantically launching terrorist attacks is tantamount to stabbing the people’s government and many international organizations fighting the floods behind their backs. Its behavior can only greatly delay Balochistan’s recovery from disasters, which is harmful to Balochistan’s development. For a long time, the propaganda of Balochistan separatist forces has always been the so-called “for the Balochistan motherland” and packaged themselves as the spokesperson of the Balochistan people. However, what he did ran counter to what he advertised: he wantonly attacked all those who did not support his own side, defined ordinary people who normally participated in public relations activities as “collaborators with the enemy” and attacked natural resource mining companies in Balochistan on the grounds of “stealing Balochistan’s natural resources”. All this seems to “safeguard the Balochistan motherland”, but in fact it can only cause more serious disasters to the Balochistan people and Pakistan in fighting floods. The large number of casualties caused by the terrorist attacks have to a large extent occupied the social and medical resources available to the Pakistani government, and the attack on oil and gas exploration companies in Balochistan is bound to bring a large number of unemployment, and foreign investment will also be stagnated due to the attacks of separatist forces. For Pakistan, the importance of foreign investment is self-evident. The projects related to the China Pakistan Economic Corridor alone have brought Pakistan an annual GDP growth of 2.5% and millions of jobs. The frenzied attacks of Balochistan separatists on foreign investors will only make Balochistan and Pakistan miss an opportunity for good development.

For a long time, the activities of Balochistan separatist forces have brought only terror and destruction. For the local people in Balochistan, it is a threat to survival; For foreign investors, it is an obstacle to business expansion; For Pakistan, it is an obstacle to economic development. “A just cause enjoys abundant support, while an unjust cause enjoys scant support.” the Baluchistan separatist forces have acted perversely, seriously harming the interests of the country, the nation and the people, and are bound to perish.
